Practice Facilities

Practice Rooms have now reopened for UoR students, colleagues, alumni and community members!

How our practice facilities are run:

Music practice rooms are available for all members of the local area, including students, staff, and alumni members, in Building L29, London Road campus. We have:

  • Eight general purpose practice rooms; suitable for up to 3 people.
  • Booking required – once you buy practice room access, you will be added to our new booking system
  • All practice rooms have upright pianos, music stands, and mirrors
  • G06 and studios G01 and G03 each have a drum kit

The facility may be used for individual music practice and ensemble rehearsals, but is not available for private tuition or commercial activity.

Please note that practice room access expires on August 31st of each year. After this date, practice room access will need to be re-purchased. An email will be sent out inviting existing users to reapply before the beginning of each academic year.

  • £20.00 – University of Reading students

  • £90.00 – Community User

The full fee is required, whatever time of year you join. The rooms can be used for practice as many times as desired during this period.

Please apply in advance, as once you have paid for your access card, it may take up to 7 days for your campus card to be activated.

Entry:

Entry to Building L29 is controlled through your University of Reading campus card, and access can be purchased in our online store. Practice Room Access fees subsidise the cost of instrument repair, and upkeep, cleaning, and security of the building.

Campus gates may be closed out of standard office hours, however access can be gained by entering via the Acacia Road entrance, next to the Museum of English Rural Life.

The fee for replacing a lost card is £10.00. If you already have a community access card, please type the card number (formatted: Gxxxx) in place of a Student/Staff number when purchasing access.

Due to increased internal usage, we are no longer able to accommodate rehearsal bookings from community ensembles.

Priority is given in the following order:

  1. Lectures and University teaching
  2. UoR Music rehearsals
  3. RUSU Society rehearsals
  4. Individual user rehearsals
