Accompanist Needed!

University of Reading Music is seeking a new accompanist to join us in September.

The UoR Music team runs a diverse programme of extracurricular activities and events throughout the year that promotes engagement through music and showcases the talents within the University to a range of public audiences.  Across the programme we strive to ensure that participants benefit from a professionally run environment which provides an exceptional experience for participants and audiences alike.

In 2022-23, Thursdays will become an evening of choral singing, with two different ensembles rehearsing.  The chorus rehearses 6.30-8.00pm and is open to all students, staff and alumni.  And the vocal ensemble rehearses 8.15-9.15pm and is open to students only.  Both choirs are currently non-auditioned.  Most rehearsals take place on the London Road campus, with some exceptions for particular events and projects.

In addition to rehearsals, the choirs perform and participate in a number of different events both within the university and the wider community.  This includes but is not limited to concerts, workshops, Christmas celebrations and various other events.  The choirs sing a range of music, from pop and rock to classical depending on the event and are expertly led by our Artistic Director, Victoria Ely, and our choral conductor, Patrick Barrett.

Our accompanist will be required to attend weekly rehearsals on Thursdays 6:30-9:15pm and accompany performances as required.  The ability to deputise for the MD on occasion would be welcomed. Excellent sight-reading is essential as is previous experience working with choral ensembles.

This is a freelance position and remuneration is at £125 per rehearsal (including travel) and is paid at the end of each term.  There are additional fees for performances.

To apply, please send your CV along with a covering letter outlining your experience and why you would find it interesting to work with UoR Music to music@reading.ac.uk.  Please include two referees.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 4th September by end of day (midnight).

Candidates who are short-listed will be invited to have a brief phone interview with the Artistic Director, Victoria Ely, prior to auditions, which will take place on Thursday 22nd September.
